secret supermarket health products
When you’re thinking “health product”, you’re probably thinking some cool, but expensive supplement or trending juice. Nope, here are my favourite silent heroes - the real deal when it comes to eating healthy, easily and on a budget.
Tuna and rice bowls
Find them in the canned fish aisle, these pre-packed tuna and rice or quinoa bowls are a great source of protein (usually around 20g) and fibre (around 5g). Prices range from about $3-$5. Super tasty, super filling, super easy.
Canned legumes
Sounds boring, I know, but adding a can of chickpeas or lentils to your bolognese or curry makes the meat stretch that bit further and improve your gut health at the same time. Prices range from $1-$2.20 per can.
Mixed dried herbs
Buy one jar of this stuff at around $4 and it will last you weeks, if not, months. Use it to flavour your pasta sauces, soups and stews, even Mexican dishes. You’re more likely to eat healthy if it’s flavoured well! One jar - many uses.
Hummus
Yep, good ol’ hummus. Make sure you look for the ones with all natural ingredients (my current fave is the SSS Foods brand). Cost is around $4.30 for a great dip, toast topper, salad addition or something to make dinner a bit more interesting.
I hope you found this helpful! Happy shopping!
