tips to stay a motivated healthy vet nurse

Staying motivated on your healthy vet nurse journey requires a combination of clear goals, self-compassion, variety, and support. Remember, it's not about perfection but progress. Every small step you take brings you closer to your ultimate goal. Stay focused, stay positive, and enjoy the journey to a healthier, happier you. Here are some helpful tips -

  1. Set small, clear goals: Start with small, achievable goals. Instead of overhauling your entire diet, focus on making one or two healthy changes at a time. Celebrate your successes along the way to build momentum. Some examples would be cutting down to one coffee per day, or doing 10 minutes of pilates 3 times a week, or bringing lunch to work 2 days a week.

  2. Write a basic routine for the day: This one is my favourite. When I am am working towards a goal (yes, I have health goals too!), I always map out what my day will look like to achieve the things I want. Eg. I know I have to get up at 6:30 to get my workout in, then get ready in time to make myself a nutritious breakfast. Start small and schedule one thing for the day at a particular time, then slowly build on this.

  3. Keep it Interesting: Vet nurse life can get pretty mood lowering at times, so keep it interesting by changing up your environment. I love to put a bunch of flowers in the kitchen (cat friendly of course!), or a crystal next to my bed (never underestimate the power of tapping in to that feminine energy side of things).

  4. Create an end of day ritual as a reward or something to look forward to: The trick here is to make sure it is something that will help your health journey, not set it backwards. At the moment I’m spending 15 minutes reading on the couch before I go to bed. I actually hate reading, but look forward to this time to unwind and read something that will help my journey (About to start reading “Girl On Fire”).

  5. Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to how different foods make you feel. Eating whole, nutrient-dense foods can boost your energy and mood, reinforcing your commitment to healthy eating, whereas ultra-processed and fast foods will do the opposite. This doesn’t mean you need to completely cut these foods out of your life, but you are now more aware of what serves you and what doesn’t, and will naturally sway towards to the better choice.
